Roads Authority of Namibia

The Roads Authority, whose core business is to construct and maintain Namibia's road sector, plays a pivotal role towards road safety in Namibia. Namibia's road network has been ranked among the safest, most efficient and sustainable, and is the envy of many countries.The growth of the road infrastructure and the expansion of the road network have contributed immensely to the economic development of Namibia and the SADC sub-region as a whole.

Road Network

The custodian of the road network on behalf of the Government is the Roads Authority of Namibia. All proclamations and data regarding the road network are deposited in the data base of the RMS.

Permits

The Road Transportation Act and Regulations of 1977 (Act No 74 of 1977), provides for permits authorising the transportation of passengers for reward travelling on public roads within the borders of Namibia.

The national road reserve is the full width of a proclaimed road, including the roadside and the roadway. Proclaimed public roads, such as trunk, main and district roads, generally have a road reserve width of 60 meters, measured 30 meters to either side of the road centre line. The road reserves of these roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Roads Authority.​
